Three Steps for the DIY Upholstery Cleaner
The task of cleaning is usually put off because let’s face it, no one actually enjoys scrubbing and dusting. Keep your cleaning simple and follow these three steps. You’ll be an expert upholstery cleaner in no time.
Vacuum
When it comes to cleaning your sofas and chairs, the vacuum is your most important tool. Use the attachments to really get into every corner of the furniture. Vacuum the surface for at least five minutes. Go over the areas more than once to ensure that the vacuum can lift as much dirt, dust, and grit from the surface. For delicate fabrics, use a low suction power. Vacuum left to right in overlapping strokes. This technique is great for velvet, suede, and corduroy fabrics.
Spot Cleaning
Use a clean white cloth and dry cleaning solution to spot treat visible stains. Rub the cleaner into the stain and then vacuum the dust away. If the stain remains, repeat the process a second time. If the stain is still there after the second round, do not continue the process. The repeated rubbing can ruin your furniture. For hard-to-remove stains, call a professional upholstery cleaner.
Wet Cleaning
Use a gentle dishwashing liquid and an upholstery brush to clean the surface of the fabric. Do not use too much soap or warm water. The idea is to gently clean the surface using light brushstrokes. Clean the surface of the chair in small sections top to bottom. Wipe the suds off with a clean cloth that is damp. Let it air-dry completely before using the furniture again.
